Its not just an ECU thats needed to uprate 150 opti's to 175hp. Also, im not sure if anyone can re map them other that Mercury Marine.

But are you talking about the Verado which is Super charged or the Optimax which is not super charged?

I am sure it can be remapped, but since it's a custom job, probably not worth the money.

I went round a bit on this, hoping to buy a 75 E-TEC and remap it to a 90. I've done this sort of thing a few times with cars, but it's impossible (IME) to find anyone to do this to an outboard. Should be simple enough, but the market doesn't seem to be there to drive it... Alas...

It's not exactly rocket science, just requires the proper electronic tools and a bit of software expertise. I have a friend who copied the aftermarket remapped ECU from my Saab turbo and flashed it onto his. With someone like that, and access to the appropriate engine, it shouldn't really be that hard.

Legalities of such shenanigans are another matter, particularly when it comes to messing with emissions controls. In the US there's a potential $100,000 fine from the Environmental Protection Agency. Not that you're likely to get caught, but that's the reason techs give for not swapping ECU's from a 90 to 75 as I wanted to do...
