I am aware that car dealers tried this years ago and the EU stated it was unlawful and the warranty would stand if the service had been done to a specified level and documented to the same, so I suppose this meant a Ford car could be serviced by a Vauxhall oulet provided the servicing was completed as the time periods/mileage and to specification.
If this is the case why are Yamaha telling Neil not to go to a respected dealer/agent who was one of their top listed for years as a Yam service agent but does not have their agency now? Is this lawful for warranty cover on outboards?
I think you are referring to Volkswagen (and possibly BMW) who stated that their warranty was invalid if the car wasn't serviced by a VW agent. From memory, the EU ruled that as long as a warranty claim wasn't brought about by inadequate servicing, or bad practice (lack of knowledge for example) then the warranty should be honoured.
Just to emphasise the message they fined VW several hundred million €s. However, for God's sake, don't base a legal challenge on my ramblings because I haven't taken my medication today. Wibble!
