Quick reminder- marine diesel

Was at the boat today and another operator was running up to The Hamble to fuel his diesel boat as Saturday this week the new VAT comes in and he stated fueling today would save him £100-£200. Hope this reminder is not too late for those who fill up at the pontoons.

Unleaded is coming down rather nicely, 98p @ Asda less another 2p with an Asda credit card.

Yep...even cheaper here. After adding the shopping voucher I can fill up at less than 90p/litreat Tesco right now

It's already here for us. £1.20 a litre!!!! Road diesel is £1.07! WTF!!
My dads boat has two 95 Gallon tanks. Which comes too 864 litres (approx), now when he first bought the boat Red was .27p per litre costing £233 but now it's coming up to over a grand!!!
So it's either lots and lots of cans to and from the petrol station or fitting his 2.5hp mariner on the back!

That's a cracking price. We're trying to get enough boat owners together to order a small tanker in. Also trying to raise funds for a diesel heater, but due to the size it comes in at a big price.

Who said it had to be a big diesel heater? As long as it's got a diesel heater...

If you've got 24v a truck one wouldn't be too much from a breakers.

If you can find somewhere that scraps trucks and exports the engines/axles it'll be even cheaper. The guy round here that does it cuts the engine and axles off the chassis and exports them then cuts up the chassis and cab and weighs them in. Last time I used him he charged about 25% of the normal truck breaker prices.

Thats a bit cheeky if they are already charging £1.20 per L as the price increase does not come into effect untill the 1st of November. My old man's got 1500L booked for the 31st at about 45p per L + vat, so it looks as if I will be cruising over to Rothesay to fuel the boat for a while.

Red is red so how can they tell WHEN you filled your tanks??? As many people tend to fill RIBs from jerry cans anyway...............

Random checks as with road vehicles. Incidently, all that stuff about staining the tank etc is cobblers. If you get pulled, the ministry will dip the tank, if it comes up white you're on your way. They don't start pulling the vehicle apart.

1st offence, if caught, is a fine if you have a good excuse, the 2nd is a different story and can lead to losing the vehicle.

Mollers - post 1st Nov the fuel put in boat tanks will still be red though - just taxed differently depending on declared application (commercial/leisure/heating). So dipping is no use...

Exactly - even if they see you pouring a jerry can straight in you could say you bought it 2 years ago. You could have a big tank somewhere so you could keep using the old stock for a long time............
