I am after some advice. What diameter and pitch prop will I need for an Avon SR4, 50hp 4 stroke, will be used mainly 1 up but occasionally with 2 people, 25l fuel under the console, another 25l in the bow + anchor and chain, I weight 15 stone

Which prop should I order with the engine ?

Chris

Chris - I'll look at mine when I get in about sixish .....not a million miles away on streaker - probably the same sort of weight with consoles / frame/ kit / petrol/ anchor etc .

I think a 13 pitch no ide aon diameter

It would help if you said what make of motor you're talking about and the gear ratio of the lower unit.

How many blades and made of which material?

I believe you have the exact setup I'm looking at (from your profile)

What sort of top end speed do you get one up and what is the holeshot like? What RPM does the engine reach at WOT?

Would you recommend the BF50 on a SR4?

Chris

Honda 3 blade s/s. 30knots top end (a little more can be achieved, but bottom end would suffer). Hole shot and acceleration are superb. The s/s prop was significantly punchier than the previous alloy of the same pitch. Not tried any other engine options on an sr4, but very happy with the bf.

Hi ChrisYes I have 4.8 rib/Honda bf50 3 blade alloy prop.
Mollers has said it all really.
I generally have 2 up. Performance awesome 28 knots.
No regrets.
Mr Caton also has a BF50 with his SR4

What size and pitch alloy would be best? The engine will come with an alloy prop of my choice. I may buy a stainless as well but want to get the best allow I can.

Am I correct in thinking alloy and stainless are not interchangeable with the same pitch and diameter, so if you switch between the two you have to change dimensions ? If that's correct and a 14P x 10 3/8 stainless is the right prop, what size alloy should I get ?

Chris

Honda dealer has suggested either 12p x 11 3/8 or 13p x 11 1/8 3 blade alloy on a bf50. What are the ribnet thoughts on this, which should I go for?

The dealer has done me a really good deal on the engine, it would be rude to ask for more discount.
