I would add that four brothers, my partner and father went to this guy for over 30 years, for leisure and commercial work and never ever had a problem of any sort. We alone have five boats at the moment and he's done all our work.
Until someone broke in we'd never heard a bad word said and when his insurance wouldn't cover the loss, what he could salvage had to be paid out of his own pocket.
I think maybe benefit of doubt patience and understanding would be well employed here, the guy spent 45 years building up his business. If your prop looks battered just be glad you got it back, some stuff the thieves sold on and he had to buy back from other people - can you imagine how painful that is? Other stuff they would have sold for scrap - what is he supposed to do? I think the way to look at it is how lucky you are to get it back and give him a break.

Martini,

I had heard that they had been broken into but that was some time ago, in fact just before I was going to send my prop in for a service. I have rung and spoken to them and they did sound very knowledgeable especially about Ribs, I think they used to race them?

Where else can you go to get a really first class prop refurb? I would like to get fully polished, balanced and back to factory spec.

As mentioned earlier in the thread - Steel Developments. Always done a good job for me

RIBase
Had good service from propeller solutions this autumn. Visited them just after they were broken into.

Balanced a prop in a morning when I needed it quickly and later re-pitched one for me.

Propellor Solutions

I have just got my prop back from Propellor Solutions after a complete re-furb.

I have been suffering from vibration between 2000 and 2800 rpm. This was not severe but the Verado is usually so smooth that it was noticeable. I tried (borrowed) a new REV 4 21 (mine is a REV 4 19) which was actually much worse than mine, but marginally faster!

I was begining to think I had a misfire and with no easy obvious solution a potentially very expensive engine problem. I had the prop re-furbished as a last resort. My prop was apparently in a bit of a state, had had a serious bang at some point and someone (previous owner??) had attacked it with an angle grinder to smarten it up. Two of the blades needed to be build up and re-profiled and the balance was "way out".

The result - nice shiny prop, vibration free boating, performance is about the same.

I'm delighted, service was good and the price very reasonable considering the work that had to be carried out.

NOTE - One interesting thing was that the new REV 4 was even further out of balance than mine. I have also heard of a new pair of 19 Mirages that were measured to be 18 and 20.5. If I was to get a new prop I would certainly consider getting it checked and balanced. And if I was to get a used boat with a Stainless prop I would definately get it refurbished ASAP.

Thanks a lot for that very useful post mate. I've got a "High Five" 5 blade S/S prop that I'm looking to get completely refurbed. You would recommend Propeller Solutions then? What was the turn around time?

Yes I would recommend them. Very pleasant to deal with and very knowledgeable about RIBs. He used to race Pasoes. Turn around time for me was 3 weeks, but it is his busiest time of year and I did have the borrowed REV 4 so I wasn't boatless and was not pressing for a rapid return. They are based near Wimborne if you pass that way.

Others here have used Steel Developments and have been happy with their service. I would have had to have sent the prop away to use them, so being able drop the prop off and collect it was an added advantage for me.
