There is talk of a supercharged 4 stroke, but what ever it is lets hope it doesn't go the same way as the Blackhawk drive and the 2 speed gearbox of a couple of years ago!

Supercharging

Will Project x be a supercharged engine?, what a great idea... has it been done before?
I had a Supercharged VW Polo up until a while ago and it was awesome, 140 BHP out of a 1300 cc.... what's to stop this type of induction translating to outboards???

Hi Manos

I would not be too sure about that , lets wait till the 12th. That is only a week away. Wonder if any of the forum members will be at the Miami Boat Show. How about you guys from across the pond. Perhaps some first hand info will enlighten us

Andre

supercharged twostroke

Yes, it is possible, and here is how you do it:

It seems it is not a new idea, the germans had a supercharged twostroke diesel aero engine in a junkers during the second world war.

Good info! Cheers Nik
Now will have to see if this can be applied to smaller petrol engines

Oh great. Let's all rave about the heaviest outboard in existence. Stick one of these on the back of yer rib and it'll stand on end.
Say goodbye to performance boating. Gimme a 2 stroke any day.

Supercharging.
Here's some eye candy for supercharged outboards.
Built by monty racing (OMC guru in the US), supercharged V8.
The advantage of a supercharger over turbo is you can do away with the reed assemblies. Some people have tried to turbo charge outboards, but as far as I have found, not with much success.

There is no reason why it cant be applied to smaller engines. Some small cars the lupo for example use turbochargers to get the power up. And remember the turbocharger and supercharger are essentially the same thing except the supercharger is driven from the engine mechanically and therefore is a drain on the engine, which is why turbochargers are so common.

Thats a great site, but maybe just a bit heavy going for all but the most diehard petrolheads.

I hadn't made the exhaust valve connection until I saw the site, I was trying to figure out the piston porting arrangement/timing to allow enough additional pressure to be generated by a Supercharger to make it worth while on a two stroke.
