I believe Mr Codprawn has solved his problem now.

Not meaning to steal his thunder or hijack his thread, I understand he discovered he'd fallen foul of the well known Japanese green fur gremlin that thrives in salty environments on oriental bullet connectors.

I have also had to banish a couple from my own Suzi wong in the past couple of months.

Nasher.

SORTED!!!

Well I thought it was a fuse after reading the Clymer manual and seeing the same fuse controls the starter and the PTT. When I checked the fuses they were fine. What was the problem then?

Bloody bullet connectors - they should be banned!!! They looked fine but the one attached to the above fuse lead was not making proper contact - pulled it out slightly and it's all sorted.

I am shocked to discover that all outboard makers use these hideous inventions. They are crap - they have no place on a car never mind a boat. Looks like it will be out with the soldering iron and heatshrink again followed by silicone grease and PCB laquer(damp start).

Damn you beat me to it by seconds - thanks for the advice again!!!

Actually there wasn't any green fur - the connections were spotless - if they won't work when clean what chance do they have when they go mouldy???

No it doesn't, it melts when it gets warm. Nor does it contain the anti-oxidant or emulsifier.
