Painting Outboards

My beloved Tohatsu outboard has picked up a few scrapes and scratches down to the bare aluminium. Can I just paint over these with the appropriate paint or do I need to prep/treat the areas first?

thanks!
no unfortunatly still just the 30hp
minus the geegee's that have left the stable since it left the factory!
must say i was disapointed when i took the hood off though
someone had painted V8 on it
