Outboard Transport

I take our inflatable and its outboard to the south of France each year in the back of my L200, this year the outboard is bigger - a 40 2 stroke and we have and extra child - so space under the hard top is at a premium.
I'm considering making some sort of bracket or mount to hang the engine off the back of the pick up or tow bar. Has anyone seen anything or made anything similar?

I like the look of this but its only rated to 50kg

Strap the outboard and fuel tanks into one of these, or the equivalent. Outboard should weigh about the same as mine 200 lbs.

If it were me though I build something that mounted to the hitch carrier and held the engine upright, where it mounted like on a transom bolted in place for security and safety. Still the fuel tank(s) should be transported outside the vehicle.

You could buy an old motocrosser bracket and modify it. Used to carry a 250 crosser on the back of the car no problem and the 40 would be lighter than that. They just bolt on the towbar flange.

Yeah, you could hang it off of the arse, but not the ideal place to add 70kg. Personally, I'd prefer it in the back of L200 and nearer centre of vehicle for weight distribution and security. Jim (Beda) makes a dead smart slide out bed for pick-ups which could posiible be adapted. Or, cobble a frame up out of timber.

Yeah, put the heaviest item in the centre of the vehicle and lighter stuff hanging out the back, you wouldn't attach a trailer with a 70kg weight on the tow ball - is the child fairly forgiving?

Depends on the trailer/ towbar/ vehicle some are rated for 90kg sometimes more.....
