Possible thermostat, blockage or water pump issue. Given lack of use a new water pump wouldn't do any harm. Try some strimmer wire or something in the tell tale hole and see if that helps mean time. Don't run it long until you know it is cooling correctly.

Since you are not familiar with them I would look for a service manual if you want to tinker or take it to your local outboard shop.

I'd change the fuel for new as well. Rules out another possible cause.

Very stale fuel will cause white smoke. Flush it out and put fresh stuff in and make sure the mix is right.
Water out the exhaust........fairly normal. Most of the coolant water will come out the prop hub (if it's in the water you'll never see it), some from the "tell tail" and a bit of spray out the exhaust on the leg. Doesn't sound like a problem.

It's an easy job just buy the service kit for the pump do your gear box oil at the same time whilst the lower leg is off . Get on YouTube for danger marine he does some good videos or DRAYS shop same stuff. Central marine services in Ilkeston will do it if you don't want the hassle.

just check the cylinders warm up, but don't get hot. Think domestic rad temps.
