Outboard mounting hole configurations

Right my 135 has gone and now I'm looking at a replacement engine and I'm looking at getting a 90hp as the 135 was way too much for the boat.

So my question is do engine manufacturers have a universal bolt pattern or do they all use different patterns so I'll end up drilling new holes.

Thanks

All modern engines of that hp are the same.

Ok cool cheers for that

Well it seems my old v6 135 had a funny bolt pattern as with the standard BIA bolt pattern for transoms to take the standard outboard bolt pattern.

It is 10" from the top of the transom to the bottom bolt centre but on my transom I have the lower bolts at 13" below the transom top which is a lot lower than they should be.

Which is wierd as it was only a 1999 engine so I htought should have been standard.

I expect someone didn't have the correct drilling jig when engine was originally mounted. They probably hung engine in place and drilled top holes and the just ran the drill though the bottom holes not paying attention to which one they went through. Oli
