Outboard lock for Mercury 50hp

Hi,

I need a lock to go on these studs, does anyone know of one that would be suitable?

You'll prob find it easier bolting the bottom holes through and putting a lock on those bolts.

The bottoms already bolted through. Which lock is best for this?

Far cheaper than the Volcano locks and works like a car wheelnut lock with a special socket.No lock mechanism so won't seize.

this is a damned if you do, and damned if you dont,it does not matter how secure your obm is if the thieves want it they will chain saw the transom to take it

I understand that but at the moment its too easy to take. That and my insurance requires an outboard lock to be fitted, although if it does get nicked how you prove one was fitted is beyond me.

I suspect if you've got the key for it,the remains of the lock or no transom that's probably enough proof.

When we had a load of fuel stolen the thieves took the cut lock as the bolt cutters leave a unique "fingerprint" that would connect them to any other crime them cutters had been used in.

I don't think I need a "proper" lock just something that prevents anyone from walking up and taking it.

Took me longer than I thought to get one of THESE off. Didn't have access to power so it was a hammer and chisel job.

Just fitting locks to mine now . Best suggestion I have is take some pics of the the lock in place on the boat & send it to insurers - that way they already have the proof if the worst happens . I do this with all of this stuff & keep a copy with the insurance docs at home as well.

I dont want to get into taking the bolts out of the transom ( after 4 years of being in there) so ordered 2 of the type Nos recommended ( thanks for the link ) then realised they may not fit the bolts on the big Opti ! If they get here & dont fit watch out for them at a knock down price on here .
