Outboard 20hr service needed..

Hi folks, I have a new Honda BF15 which according to the warranty booklet needs to be serviced at 1 month or 20 hrs which ever comes first.

I have only done 2 hrs so far...and the 1 month ends on 4th November.

The dealer I bought it from does not do servicing.

Do any of you guys know of a good place to take it to get it serviced near Oxford?

Regards

Outboard 20hr service needed..

As far as I know the nearest Honda service dealer would be in Reading

http://www.honda.co.uk/marine/dealers/DLM100.html

No idea if any good, but 20hr first services are really just oil changes to get the crap out etc. to preserve warranty and should be a fixed rate.

If you’ve only done 2 hrs is it worth having it serviced now?

Might be worth asking Honda if it could be serviced say Spring next year when you may have nearer to 20hrs on it. Some manufacturers accept the sporadic seasonal useage outboards get, and can be flexible with the first service time scale, whilst still keeping warranty intact. We had a Suzuki, purchased in October, and serviced in April at 20 odd hrs. The servicing dealer cleared this with Suzuki re warranty.

Also, our current Mariner was registered in December and also serviced following April at 29hrs with no detrimental affect on warranty.

You need to properly break-in the engine before the first service, like chipko said, it is mainly to change the oil as new engines will have metal shavings that get in the oil. At least get to 10-15 hrs min.

I purchased in October 2016, had one outing then laid it up over winter. Took me two seasons to get 20 hours and even then the oil was still golden brown. Hardly any use with WOT. Dealer reassured me this was no problem regarding Suzuki warranty I expect Honda are no different.
