To be fair it would appear most of the modern engines are pretty reliable if bought new and looked after. I'd imagine it's the 2s 4s choice that's key, dependent on usage. The rest is just price, weight and dealer locality.

How many hours a season will the OP do on average and how long does he intend to keep it ?

Do most new outboards come with a 5 year warranty now days ?

Does the colour go with the rib?

Well...Not my words exact words acutely....but sure I did like my 130 etec. And it suited the 545 really well...BUT then you change to 250 lump...(only the second 4stk I've had) on a larger much heavier Boat...and the Fuel economy isn't THAT much different at all!! and

Copied and pasted exact quotes, took me a while to find 'em. ;-) Putting aside the sizes and applications and that you love your current OB, I'm still not sure how your etec opinion has gone from 'awesome' to 'quite liked'?
