Clouds of blue smoke, growling noisy engine, I have all this multiplied by 2 - bliss!
Now don't go ruining it all by speaking about fuel consumption!

Do you have any experience with the Yamaha Vmax 150 or 200, not the HPDI version.

In a word, no.
But I understand they are more pokey and therefore thirsty than hpdi.
I think Manos has Vmax?

I had a Yamaha V-Max 150 Hp on the back of my Humber rib and it never missed a beat. The only problem I ever had with it was the oil sensor which controlled the level of the reservoir within the engine died - cost 23.00 to sort out. As far as fuel consumption is concerned she was mighty thirsty, but then again I don't drive a rib with fuel conservation on my mind - mostly!

The ribs i use are normally to support sailing, so its good to have a quiet engine as we sit around a lot.

Also the sailers go sailing to get away from engines etc so the last thing they want is a smokey two stroke right next to them.

5000 is not bad for a year old. The 225 have had a few recall for fuel rails, injectors and a few other bits and bobs. The engine for 5 grand still in warrenty so even if the work hasn't been doen just take it to the local dealer and it will get sorted.

We run 6 opti's and they are great. We have one of the first 135hp which is a 1999 model and it has done hundreds of hours and never missed a beat, apart from once but that was user error.

The 225 is a great engine and cheaper to run than the hpdi's.
