Optimax 2 stroke oil ??

I'm out of optimax and the only thing available in Dublin is shell optimax two stroke oil. Is this ok for a once off fill ? I normally use quicksilver optimax oil. All help appreciated.

Damn! We've all been here. Is it synthetic? Look, this is rocket science to us Opti owners. The point is that Opti's do work different from most other 2 strokes and therefore it is wise to use their oil. Regular synthetic Quicksilver oil is OK to use in emergencies, and it's interesting to note that it's no longer called Quicksilver Optimax Oil, just generic Quicksilver 2 stroke. The answer, I guess is that for a once off, it would be OK, but I'm not the owner. To be honest, I would probably go for any other make except the Shell if you can get it, (remember what their petrol did when it was first released?) but at a push, any high quality 2 stroke oil is probably the same. Is it designed for injection or mixing? This is important I would guess. There must be some wise engineers out there who know - it is a huge problem even on the Solent. You try and buy Optimax (Quicksilver Synthetic) oil in Cowes for example.

Opti oil is very different from normal two stroke oil. Yes its sythetic, but it does not mix with the fuel like a normal two stroke. Im 99% sure they have not changed the name of it, ive seen lots of bottles of the stuff at work thats just come from the states and its got Optimax written on it.
A year or so ago they did do a Quicksilver Premium Plus oil which, if you can find some still for sale is ok to use.

What oil does the Mercury Optimax manual say you can use? Obviously they want to sell their own stuff but it must say somewhere what spec oils you CAN use????

The one diesel turbo mentiones, we are advised only sell Premium Plus for Optimax......... heck of more expensive............

We all way used Quicksilver oil on are hpdi yam. but we filled the oil tank with that shell crap 4 one days wakeboarding it made the enginer run like a dog. so i would not use shell.

If that's the case then surely any oil of the correct spec may be used??? Obviously all Quicksilver do is get someone to make the oil for them - then stick their own label on and make a fortune!!!

Apparently they don't even stick to the same maker either - you could be getting Shell one month - Duckhams the next batch!!!

The bottom line is this, you have a lot of money in your opti

Quicksilver performance DFI oil is not the same as tcw3, apparantly it doesnt mix with fuel like a tcw3 branded oil, the container doesnt tell you its spec, all it says it is Synthetic ,not suitable for engines demanding tcw3 graded oil and provides warranty protection if you use it,

so dont risk Shell, it just has Optimax in the name , who do you normally get it from
