Opti oil .....again

Can anyone confirm if quicksilver have changed the label on opti oil. I'm sure when I had some before it said something like ' for use with optimax / dfi engines' on it. The one I have just got ( & put in the tank!) just says ' DFI oil' - but came direct form the mercury dealer so I hope they know what they were selling me . I was told ' its the same as the opti oil' when I asked for oil for my engine .

Pete

I noticed this too when I got the last one from Ribsmarine. As it was from a dealer I trust they knew what they were doing ....
Mine you it's gone horribly expensive, dont you think.

Yep - I didn't even ask the price - I went round in my Avon with the Yamaha on the back - they did look a little confused at my request ! No-one seemed to know how much it should cost so they were going to add it to my account ( I winter/ service the boat there) . Part of me hopes it never makes it on the account !

It was 8 weeks ago and nothing in the post yet !

I dont really mind paying for the right stuff - I have been very happy with the opti - never missed a beat & 100% reliable so far this year.

Whats the going rate for a 4L bottle these days? It seems to vary a lot.

I've got a choice between £42 at the local Merc dealer or £27 at the chandlery round the corner. Decisions decisions...

optimax oil

if you do not use quicksilver dfi oil your optimax wont start or will blow up so say murcury. but is this true .what is the difference between this & other 2t oils .when asked they are none pacific only sharp intakes of breath & on your head be it ect .
best cost i have found
dfi =£80 =10lt
premium plus =£67= 10 lt
usa cost dfi £ 85 = 5 galls
is there an alternative

We sell it for £30.92 + vat for 4 litres, and £60.00 + vat for 10 litres. Which is a 15% "ribnet" discount on the list price. If you order it in multiples, you'll get a bigger discount!!!

If your really keen, we can do a 208 litre drum for £1,022.00.

i understand that if you use normal merc oil not optimax/dfi it does foul up the plugs a lot more - but it wont blow up or anything!

Interestingly, there is an American oil supply company that are quite happy to take on the “if you don’t use Mercury oil, you’re warranty is void” claim in the States. They will even write to your service dealer with a threats of litigation if they take that stance……quoting the “Magnuson-Moss Act”.

While the Magnuson-Moss Act does not require manufacturers to provide a written warranty, it provides specific rules when one is provided. Among those provisions, FTC regulations state: (c) No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumers using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade, or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection may be waived by the Commission if (1) the warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and (2) the Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest. (15 U.S.C.2302(C))

If my memory serves me right, the EC took VW to court for failing (or threatening) to cover cars under warranty if they were serviced by a non-franchised garage. VW were fined several (hundred?) million €.

BMW were also at it at the same time. In some respects the Munich firm were worse because their cars could only be serviced if a garage had BMW diagnostic equipment. They later made that equipment available to independant dealers, but the price was extremely high. I believe it was later reduced, possibly to avoid similar sanctions to VW.

FIAT/Alfa Romeo have a similar system, but it is available at a much lower price. That's if my memory is correct.

Now, who am I? Where am I? What am I doing here? Who are all those people in white coats. NURSE!!!!

Huge differance in prices out there. Marinautic ( trade member on here) was best deal for me. From memory 20l was about £130. Worth supporting trade members on here !

I had in the past paid £48 for 4 L ! ( I had no choice it was that or not use the boat that day ! )
