I somehow doubt you'd ever get one from a donor car to work in a boat. There's bound to be so many differences such as the extra sensors in a car and a different fuel/ecu map.
The 5 pot is based on the older VW/Audi motor old tec not that heavily reliant on the electronic wizardry…. But I suspect all the new high pressure TDI motors whether marine or road need an ECU and associated sensors to get the performance and economy.

Hence why the Redbay boys like the non electronic Yanmar engines.

hi

a mate of mine was on about getting an old renault 2.1 td off the 19/21/25 range of cars running a can of hammerite through the cooling system then dropping it in to a sutiable donar rib pos SR5.4 on an merc leg of some discription running it til it fails then getting another engine !!

but i dont reckon itll work

Hell if you can get the bits to run it in a boat why not… but I think you would struggle on space in a RS 5.4
