Of course there are plenty of available thief disabling devices, that are semi-automatic

I have a video surveillance system that does an excellent job of keeping people away. The "Smile You Are On Camera" signs pretty much stopped traffic driving down our private driveway, for which the "No Trespassing" signs did almost nothing as they were ignored. Security lights that come on with movement and cameras in sight will stop all but the determined.

^ I like the idea!

"Make sure that the trip wire is high enough not to be triggered by household pets, wild animals or stray animals."

The deer would set it off at my house a few times a day no matter what height you set it at to be triggered by humans.

A few motorcycle owners I know from other forums have them. Sadly they fit them after theft, rather than before.
