new etec inline 50hp vs yamaha 4 stroke 50 highthurst

In case I cant find that Bullet proof late yamaha 2 stroke 50hp high thrust what is my next best option....................Evinrude etec stats look pretty good https://boatbuild.wordpress.com/2009...or-comparison/ and it has a higher gear ratio then all other competitors and its 2stroke.....so if I ever flip.....I can just pull my plugs turn her over a few times dry the plugs out put them back in and go.......... I have used the 40 etec and towed some 22 foot inflatable rafts up some decent current.................. and seen the 40 go through a flip as described above......How do you all feel about the ETEC?

i don't think any 4 stroke will give you what you are wanting.

I'd go with the Etec, in that size range you will get the most thrust for your buck, easy to own, simple maintenance.

Hi Cobden,

Welcome to the forum. I lived in Pembroke for 3 years as wee tyke and currently have 2 of my best friends who live just off Hwy 17 near the B-Line road with their 4 kids.

If you are looking at an ETEC 50, I'd also suggest looking at a Suzuki DF50 which is about 13lbs lighter. From what I've read, the newer 4 strokes by Suzuki & Honda have really narrowed the performance gap.

If fuel consumption is not a major factor in your requirements, then a carbureted 2 stroke yamaha or Tohatsu would be a great engine.

I have a mid-90s Yamaha 40 hp 2 stroke that I've put through all sorts of harsh use and it just keeps going. It is a thirsty one though, and I can easily go through 80-100 liters on a 3 day river or channel trip.

I just watched a Russian video on youtube where an Evinrude ETEC 60 was pitted against a Suzuki DF50 four stroke...The Suzuki won!

I watched a pig flying past pulling against a dodo. The pig was on ice and the dodo was propped correctly and won.

I've seen that vid. There's no comparison.There's not even a suggestion that the etec was at full throttle,that they were the same boat,or that they were correctly propped or that they were racing apart from a generic 'vs' in the title.
