i would have thought with 6 grandsons and money in your pocket you were in the driving seat, again, if you are unhappy about buying it, don't do it, it's right money for what it is and you're not going to get a trader to do any more for the money, buy a grease gun and grease for £15 and do it yourself, that's what i would do, and i will gladly meet your grandsons if you think i've disregarded you in anyway

Biff's right.

£150 small outboards that are mechanically ok aren't very easy to find.
Assuming that it is mechanically ok and given that it'll take him less time to grease it than it takes for a long conversation on it,you'd be wise to buy it before he decides to sell it to someone else.

Either that or he or sticks a grease gun on it himself then charges another £50.

The trouble here is like Quantum Physics. The tiller is a bit like Schrodingers poor cat - both alive and dead in the box until someone takes a look.

Currently the engine (ungreased) is in both potential states - bollixed and not bollixed and will remain there, cheap at £150 until someone greases the tiller and moves it into one state or the other - bollixed at £125 or not bollixed at £200.

I would humbly suggest that the seller may already have formed an opinion...

(Biff, you were right - a total dreamworld)
