If you go for the 90HP range read this article. They compared 5 different 90HP engines. it seams like it's not going to be an easy choice!

My advice would be go for the largest engine posible ,Envolve your dad to read the threads.For some reason i have often found dealers will always supply boats underpowered.You will always regret getting the 90(sorry but you will)Contact Timboli He has good knowledge of this size of boat

On Ribcraft’s site they say that min is 60HP and max is 150HP for the 5.85 version. So 115HP looks good but 130 even better.

BTW what will you use the rib for and how many people will it generally transport. Because if your rib is going to be well loaded 90HP seems a little weak. It all depends for what you will use it for.

...and what your expectations are. If you want an economical boat and you are budget conscious, or if you want a silent motor at tickover, that will lead you to a different engine choice than if you are purely focussed on adrenaline rush.

In the US they say max 130 and in the UK max 150. So 115 would be fine but 130 would be better as Richard B states for the adrenaline rush. But 130 would not be overpowered seen the fact that you can have 150 in the UK.

Again, it all depends on what you plan doing with it.

Personal view: better to have some spare HP's than having to say if only i had some more ...

Why the difference in max horsepower between the uk and the usa.

Dont they know how to build boats as strong over there.

Or are they worried that the american users couldnt handle it

The usa branch has built the RIBs better And they arnt worried that the american users couldnt handle it....they were worried the UK users would get pissed that the americans were beating them with the same model and a 115 on the back
