I have used a wee shot of ether to get my snowblower and lawnmowers going at the beginning of each season for ever. One is a 4 stoke and the other a 2. Neither one seems to have suffered from it.
Explanation I have heard is that:

(1) ether (easystart) has no lube.
(2) ether "degreases" very well, so removes any residual oil from the cylinder.

I guess if it fires into action and draws in oil/fuel very quickly it will probably be ok. But if it struggles then you go from a minor spark/fuel issue to a seized/scored engine quite quickly.

(3)Ether doesn't burn steadily like petrol. It explodes and overloads the engine, breaking rings if you're really unlucky.

451 quid. Ouch... And to think of that you possibly could have diagnosed that yourself, using a 3 can of Ether..
Ooops better run or duck for cover now... ;-)

No seriously, good for you its running at least..

This winter was so mild that there was weeks I could have cut the grass, then shovelled a week later, soon to be repeated!
