MPG Fuel Consumption on 25 to 40 HP Engines.

I'm trying to work out what sort of range you get on a tank with a small rib running on a 25 to 40 hp engine?

I searched the forum but can only find scary numbers in reference to 115 hp plus engines (like 1 litre per mile eek).

Is it similar with the smaller engines?

Fuel consumption for a 40hp will be less than half the amount of a 115, a full 25l tank for a 40 suzuki 2 stroke that i used to own would last all day for a bit of fun and fishing, my guess is around 2 nautical miles per liter. Obviously the bigger the engine the more fuel you will burn.

This past weekend I went about 37 miles on a 5 gallon (20 litres) tank going upstream against a strong current, pretty much at WOT the whole time. I didn't figure out what the fuel economy was going back down stream. This was with a carb'd 2 stroke Mercury 25 hp outboard and a 4.2.m Zodiac SIB.

update

This past weekend, with a 40 hp yamaha 2 stroke (with oil injection on the same boat, I went just over 40 miles on about 22.5 litres of gas, running at WOT pretty much the whole time (is there any other speed to run an inflatable at?)

So pretty much the same miles per liter as with the 25 hp motor but you get there a whole lot faster! That, and with the oil injection, I went through close to half the oil as with the 25 hp that uses 50:1 premix. Ultimately the 40 is more economical to run and performs better.
