Mercury Quicksilver Throttle sticky trim

Hi,
I came to get my support rib ready last week.
The battery was disconnected so I reconnected it to check the engine started under mufflers etc.
When I came back the engine had trimmed itself all the way up and the pump was still running. One click of down stopped it but it kept doing it randomly...
The rocker switch on the throttle is not stuck.
Any ideas on how to fix?
Cheers,
Ollie

Electrical gremlins!

Do the obvious and check the solenoids, especially the wiring to them, lightly sand connections and reattach.

Now it could be it's shorting itself. The wiring in most of these remote looms isn't tinned. You need a cheap multimeter to check continuity. Again, pull apart the bullet connectors, lightly sand and reattach.

Are there any relays on your engine? I'd also open the remote to take a closer look. They are notoriously fiddly, so don't do this outside. There are start in gear micro switches, etc. I'd want to check the wiring to the trim button, which no doubt will be a sealed unit. Any trapped wiring should also be investigated.
