Mercury F100- good, bad, ugly?

Morning folks,

Has anybody got a recent Mercury F100? They seem lighter, nearly 20kgs, than some of the competition.
If you decided on another brand of 100 I'm interested to know why?

I'm looking for owner's experience, opinions etc.

I could find very little online bashing of them, which surprised me.

Mercury F100

Hi,

I've been running a pair of them for just over 12 months now and they have been very good so far.

Very quite and with loads of "grunt".

Reliability has been 100% (touch wood) and economy seems reasonable too compared with the 90hp 2 strokes I was running. About the only alarm I've seen was "water in fuel" which seems a bit sensitive as its been off a couple of times for no apparent reason but that's easy to deal with and doesn't impact their running at the time as its a non urgent alarm.

They are just about due their first full service so I'll know more about running cost soon.

Steve

I have the 115hp (same engine) and so far it has been great. Never caused me any issues, apart from at initial installation where I had a few queries fitting the smartcraft sensors and a poorly installed cable connector (my fault). It is very quiet, to the point where I kept trying to re-start it when running when I first swapped over from 2 stroke. It seems more economical than the old 75 2st clamshell and has bags of power throughout the rev range. I'm very happy with it.

The main reason I chose it? It was by far the lightest 115 on the market at the time (and still may be) and I put it on a boat rated for 30 year old 2 strokes so weight was an issue. It was also a very competitive price and most importantly, I liked the black cowl!
