MERCURY 60 - Problems with water intake

I have a mercury 60hp 4 stroke (2002 non EFI) which is not picking up water. I have replaced the impeller and thermostat. I have removed the bottom half of the leg and connected a hose to the inlet, with the stat removed i do not get any water comming up the engine and no water appears via the stat position (when removed). I have placed the hose in the stat position and water appears at the tell tail and through the bottom of the leg. Water never appears to come back through the water intake.

Has anyone any ideas?????????????

Sounds very much like a blockage in the pipe between the impellor and the engine block. Maybe corrosion or salt. Take the leg off and try feeding a wire up the tube to see if there's any restriction.

That'll be the grommet closed up where the water pipe meets the adaptor plate. It's a common problem, we've done 2 this week. Mercury have a re work kit to solve it!

You'll need a 32-897971A01 water tube/seal kit, 27-892320001 adapter plate gasket, 27-892319001 powerhead gasket, 10-4007455 bolt, as it usually snaps when you remove it. £164.45 incl vat!!!!!!

From your local merc dealer, or from ourselves, and we'll give you a "ribnet'rs" 10% discount.

Might be best to order the parts after you've pulled the motor apart to confirm that it's deffo the problem.
