Mercury 5

I've got a Mercury 5hp auxiliary engine (quite recent, about 2yrs old) and i want to add it to my insurance policy. But when I went to look for the serial number last night, I couldn't find it!

I looked on the engine and gear casings, saddle clamp, no luck. All that I could see was a paper bar code on the side of the saddle clamp which had worn off. And a number stamped on the carburettor.

Any ideas?

I think it may have come off.
Its on the top centre of the saddle clamp. You cant miss it if its there.

Thanks, Nigel. I just hope that the chap who sold it to me didn't remove it for any dodgy reason

There always used to be a small circular plate that looks like a core plug on the power head with the serial number stamped in.

Might be worth a look.

Thanks, Jace. I had a look, but the thing that looks like a core really is a core plug on this engine, just stamped with a "5".

I reckon I'll have to give the insurance company the number stamped on the carb.
