Mercury 25hp Primer/Idle Speed Knob Issue.

When starting from cold, the manual tells me to "Turn Primer/Idle speed knob clockwise to increase engine idle speed for starting".

Now I do this, but it doesn't seem to increase the engine idle speed. Should there be a marked increase in engine idle speed when I do this?

There does appear to be a little bit of slackness in the little arm that links the knob to further back in the engine, you can just about see it on the attached photo.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

as you will require a revcounter and a strobe light on the ht leads i recommend that you take it to either a mercury or mariner dealer as they have the tools and the service manuals with the factory specs in.
regards
