Mercrusier diesel

I am considering a diesel rib for crusing, but also do a bit of mono sking, and wonder if any one has tried deep water starting with two feet in the ski behind a rib powered by the merc 120hp.

I hv a Parker 630 with the Mercruiser 120 HP but have never tried to water ski, (not my cup of tea) but I would say it should not be a problem. Anyway my rib is up for sale (see Ribs For Sale) so if you are interested perhaps you would like to come down with some skis and give it a try .

Hi Georgec

Well how about it? Do you want to come down? bring a dry suit and a warm undersuit and we can make a day out on the rib as well , like a trip to Cowes ect, I am sure Kevin Aging Youth or Mike C may want to join as well.
at least one can prove something to the forum cos this question has been around before and as my rib is still for sale who knows you may even want to buy it or somebody else having read the thread

If you decide to fly down then I can meet you at either Gatwick or Heathrow. I keep my rib in Littlehampton

This is like a challenge!!!!

In the worst case MeMe will have to eat his hat

Andre

If this turns into a winter cruise in the solent i'd like to bring the new boat down to the solent for a day out soon - be nice to meet up with Andre, Mike C and Kev again.

Let me know please if anything comes of it - i promise i'll stay in the boat and out of the water for the day

Hi Andre
I just might take you up on that if I can manage to tie it in to a business trip. I can manage a drysuit, but carrying a ski around is more tricky. Have you access to one?
Still hoping someone out there has already tried this and save me getting wet.

Hi Georgec

Regret but do not have any skis nor accesss to any but perhaps somebody from the Forum from the South Coast might help

anybody out there with a pair of skis we could use, perhaps Daniel who is keen to come along and join in on the fun

What date do you have in mind cos closer to Xmas if my rib has not been sold will want to winterize it

as you can see no problem with the skis . All you have to do now is get down here. Give us at least a few days notice.
Lets hope the weather will be good

when all arranged I will PM you my mobile number

MeMe, I do hope you won't have to eat your hat ,

George managed to get down to Littlehampton yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond ones control Mike was unable to come so we did not get the opportunity of testing how the Parker 630 Diesel will cope towing a skier.

As I am no skier I will leave all comments to George.

George, it was great to meet you. A pity the weather was not the best, ie fog / mist and that due to the tide and time factor we could only manage 30 minutes.

MeMe your hat is safe.
I was certainly impressed with the brief run which Andre kindly arranged, and following that I finally managed a tug behind a diesel powered rig this weekend. I have to say it is slow in pulling out, and top speed is just sufficent for slaloming ,but the boats weight does compensate as there is no material loss of speed when crossing the wake. The set up was same as Andre's 1.7 mercrusier with 21'' stainless prop.
Not one for serious watersking buffs, but for an old crusier who still fancies the occasional scoot it's a good compromise.
Andre, many thanks for your time the other week, and if you decide on Scotland next summer, get in touch.
