I just ran this question by a couple of experts, 1st said heads, the other said tails

If it's a new boat with no holes in the transom I'd be tempted to put it in the centre. If it does happen to pull to one side you could always ballast it more on the other side with the batteries etc.

New boat?!! I think Dateline went bust in about '87!

Although, he's just had a very fancy s/s transom plate made which covers all existing holes inside and out, so we are effectively, 'as new'. So go central you reckon Matt?

If you look in any O/B manufacturers installation manual I doubt you'll find anything about offsetting so it can't be that far out.

In a perfect world you'd be able to get behind the new plate and sneak a peek at the original holes, or any other imprint etc on the transom that might give away where the old motor was

Hang on a mo.! I've just googled Dateline Marine. They make model boats and possibly still race hulls. Sorry Matt.

75hp would prob be ok fitted central, but a bit of offset would help counter any prop torgue. An inch would be plenty

Don't know - they're nothing to do with Soozook or Avon......

Sort of finished last night. Had to fiddle with height etc. It's gone on centally and looks tiny compared to that nail of a Jonny V4. Lee will do the rest.

Just returned from maiden run, excellent. The Dateline and the Merc 75 work well.

Yeah. Fortunately, there's a circuit of pubs on the Fal.

Good news - thought they'd be ok together. I take it Lee's as happy man then?

Showing 45mph now,39/40 with the V4 heapster, faster pull-out,improved balance, far less row and better economy. An allround gain.

Very much like binning an Opti and replacing it with an Etec.

If I replaced an Opti with an Etec I'd be the one going round in circles, at least while the Etec gets turned off and on again

Turns out that my Etec stopped, 'coz your Optis had nicked all of the fresh air in the area and replaced it with partially burnt DFI smog. There we were blaming the gulls for the stink.
