Mariner Outboard ID

I have a question about the mariner 6hp, which I spent ages trying to get (from riversendmarine) .

I've checked it over, had it running, it all seems fine. I'm in the process of tidying up the lower leg, (Not as much corrosion as expected).

I bought it as a 2000 model and the lid has the 2000 decals on it, but inside the lid is suspiciously clean... anyway the outboard seems too heavy for the 6hp, (The catalogue says 31kg, which seems alot for a 6 anyway, 8hp is 33kg and 15/9.9 is 35kg), Could it be a 9.9/8/15 with a 6hp lid??????? Can't find anything that gives me the HP, but the model number appears to be 875-84272-03, can I get anything from that????

btw, Havn't tried it on the boat, so can't tell from that.

Thanks for the link brian.

Apparently the engine is 1994/5, which matches the colour of the leg.

Serial numbers for all HP's seem to be from the same batch.

The cowls different so unsure what hp it is!!

<d'oh>

Try taking the part numbers from the carbs and ring a few shops looking for parts.

Found the serial number search on marinepowers website, (Their link is called 'check registration', which is why it took so long to find).

The outboard is 15hp!!! and manufactured in 1993, not 2000!!!!

Max hp on my boat is 9.9hp, so should be fun!!!

Would have suprised me if I'd tried it on the boat first!!!

Looks like you paid about the right price for it then... At least you got half the money back.

It should be pretty much exactly the same as the 9.9 anyway. I seem to remember Hugh Jardon doing the upgrade and there only being a few parts different.
