Mariner 50hp

Hi every one, Ive got a humber assault, ive never had it out yet as engine is shot. I was offered a 2001 mariner 50hp 2 stroke to re engine it with and I was wondering what kind of speed would it do and whether it would be powerful enough for skiing and things? Thanks again,David.

Great engine, but probably not enough to push your >5m boat with enough oomph to use it for towing a skier or toys.

The same engine on a 4m SIB, now that would be entertaining.

I guess that depends how much >5m. Strictly speaking mine is in that category, but only just. Also as it;s an Assault the lesser V of the hull should get it on the palne with less grunt. Worst case - get a lesser pitched prop for the towing games.

I've used a 5m Assault with a Johnson 50hp on and it went fine and would happily tow a skier.

Hey thanks for the replies, would a 90hp honda bf be too much for it? I think power and weight are kind of on the limit of whats rated for it. Sorry dont mean to change the topic from the title but just wondering.

That will depend what it says on the rating plate of the boat......

....and your definition of a hairy ride!

Just remember that if you have an aux you need to take it into account when totalling the weight
