Mariner 2HP 2stroke

I have a little 2hp 2 stroke Mariner (same as Yamaha etc) like this one...

I ran it last year and it ran fine however I was wondering what to expect in terms of water flow from the outlet on the leg when it is running. It does not have a dedicated peehole type outlet it just sprays a little water out with some exhaust.

When Idling the waterflow is very slight but when its revving harder you can see water spraying a little out the back.

Is this usual or should I see a more consistent flow. I fitted a new impeller when I bought the engine

Chris this is Normal for these little EGG WHIPPERS . Ok the water comes out the back of the exhaust and to be honest there isnt really much that comes out when @ idle and increases with RPM . I have had one recently not pumping at all and the odd drop of water comes out and changed the impeller and still the same and it boiled down to the amount of salt build up around the cylinder head water passages aswell as the little grommet under the powerhead that had disintergrated in towards the tube restricting the water flow . these little babies only have small water passages and ig not flushed out after every use in fresh water , these probs happen . Is it running HOT can you hold your hand on top of the head for 5 secs . I would whip the cylinder head mate and clean around the water ways etc . I have cylinder head gaskets in stock and arent expensive at all and MUST be replaced . any other info you need or help just let me know . Baz

I may replace the impeller anyway to be sure does anyone know if this one for the Yamaha version is the same fit?

Thanks Baz, I will probably change the impellor to be certain then if there is still very little flow I will strip the head off.

I need to get a gasket for the prop shaft plate on the gearbox. do you have any in stock?

hi chris , is that NOT an O'RING on that prop shaft housing ?

I had a very similar problem on my 2.3. It had got hot enough to soften the plastic of the fuel tank . The problem was clogged waterways. I took the head off and a bottom plate and gave it all a thorough clean. Much better water flow afterwards.

Hi, no its a paper gasket and in the end I just bought a sheet of gasket paper and made my own as I could not trace one down.

The one problem I am having though is that I went to run it today and as soon as I opened the fuel cock petrol ran out of the cowl at the front. So I think I might have a stuck float in the carb float bowl.

Any other ideas. This has happened b4 and it was the float I think.

A perished fuel line or stuck float are the usual culprits.
