mariner 135 pistons

looking at a blown engine with impellor failure,
it has been stripped and inspected needs new pistons,so i am told
surely the crank would of bound up also???????

Not necessarily. If it was just a cooling failure, pistons would have cooked, but as long as it is rotating, the crank is lubricated by oil......

What may be more of interest is whether it needs a rebore or not. (and do that first before you buy the pistons - if it needs more than about 0.030" chances are you will need bespoke pistons. Mallory do some "XL" (+45 thou' rings a bell?) for certain engines.
