Lucky find!

Having finished indexing my Spark plugs to finish a 3 week service I thought I'd give everything the once over whilst the engine was ticking over. Whilst scanning my eye's over everything I noticed a little water inside the lower coweling.

On closer inspection it looked like it was coming from a hose attached to a Thermostat housing. Thought I would clean up area and affix leaky hose end with a Jubilee clip instead of the cable tie that someone else had put on previous

I took off the hose to clean up the cover and the hose tail on the cover disintegrated leaving a 10mm hole in the side. Talk about a lucky find! If that had failed at Sea, the whole of the engine would have drowned inside it's cover

Picci later if you like.

There is a thermostat housing by injector number 5 or 6 port side of engine.
It's the cover for that.

good find, I had an issue a year back when after a service the thermostate housing wasnt secured properly, I went out a couple of times after the service and the result of salt water spraying inside the engine cover killed my starter motor. The place that did the service did the right thing and covered the cost of the new starter motor which on a 200HP Yam wasn't cheap so all good. And yes I did use them again to service my engine as they did the right thing by me without any hassle. Mistakes will happen.

What I learned from this is after each service check everything, and once in a while run your engine on idle and higher revs with the boat in the water tied up and the engine cover off and just have a decent look for anything leaking.

There was one cylinder that no spark plug wanted to index to, had to buy another 6 plugs just to find one plug that fitted

But I was waiting for 1 plug to be delivered due to the web shop running out (only had to wait nearly 4 weeks). I got home from work to find they've sent another 6 plugs again.

Result, just make sure they don't charge your card again

Yes, but I might do the lottery this Saturday if I'm spot on!

Early days regards the one state-side... he's probably still sleeping!

For those interested, I did end up purchasing the cover from the States, it cost £15 all in and arrived yesterday. I've just to find some gasket material and I can go ahead, refit it and use my RIB again.

These are the before and after pics and shows very clearly that even the engine components are susceptible to electrolysis.
