Johnson VRO70 Wiring - help!

Can anyone give me advice on the wiring of an old Johnson VRO 70.

My son kindly volunteered me to do a bit of work on Heriot Watt University Dive Club's old Osprey RIB and it is finally nearing completion: new steering, new cables, rewire, trailer overhaul etc.

Attached photo is prior to commencing.

My problem is that a number of wires were unconnected and no manual.

Can anyone advise what the black wire and white wire (on the same part of the harness as the trim controls) are for, I pressume one is from the alternator to the battery +ve?

Thanks.

VRO wiring

I have the manual in front of me!

Can you tell me what year it is please. I'll then scan in a the right page for you & EM it to you.

Saves a lot more questions.

Suzuki416,

No Idea of year. The plate on the engine states:

Engine: BJ70TLCEM

Serial: 7970909

Does this help?

Thanks.

Serial Numbers

Rannsachair,

Um,

Engine: BJ70TLCEM
Does this help?

Well as far as I know (very little) about Johnson S/n's the last 2 digits are the year code.
Your last 2 digits don't make sense to me as I was under the impression that Johnson S/n's are 8 digits long.
Using only the first 8 digits of yours though gives me a year of 1989 which looks about right.
Mine 70 VRO is an 87 & looks identical so I'll get some wiring diagrams scanned in (might be tomorrow) & email them to you.

wiring diagrams for VRO!

Rannsachair,

Can you send me your EMail address so that I can forward you these pictures - they are saved in jpeg format.

5 pictures total 724Kb.

You will NOT need all these but as I'm unsure of the year of this engine, I've added the other models / years, it could be.

Pete

Thanks Pete,

I see they are just for the Trim Gauge!

I doubt it works -but I will give it a try.

I hope I get the opportunity to repay your kind assistance, though I have far more motorcycle manuals than outboard.

Cheers,

Tom
