Johnson service agent

Can anybody recommend a good service agent for Johnson outboards either in the Kent or the Portsmouth area?

If I ever pick up this 70hp Johnson VRO, it will need a service before it goes onto the Rib.

Cheers

From Gravesend you could use Turf and Surf at Dargate just off the M2, they have a raft of experience with Johnson and Evinrude, especially as they rebuilt my old rude a few times in the past

IM me if you want more details

If you are looking for someone in Portsmouth, then Lee at Fairweather Marine is nearby and strongly recommended,

Bilge Rat, have PM'd you!

Pete7, thanks, will consider him. It really depends on where I get the rib tubes repaired (any suggestions on this, currently thinking Messenger Marine). If I get them done in Hampshire, will be running about in the car with the rib + Engine, so can take it to Portsmouth. If not, will persuade my long suffering mother to drive it to Margate.

Cheers,
James

Jimbo,
I had some repair work completed on my tubes by Scott Bray at Rib Repair in Brockenhurst, Hampshire. I would highly recommend him.

Just had a flick through my mail archive, and I did e-mail Scott at Rib Repair. I will send him some detailed photos and get an accurate quote, but in my view a good reputation is worth a LOT more than a basement price!

Jimbob,
Scott will do a top job, he is also very flexible, I left mine with him and went on holiday for two weeks and when I came back it was finished! If he doesn't answer the email, PM me and I ve got his mobile number.

Thanks

Will send him an e-mail tomororw (been awake for 17 1/2 hours on 3 hours sleep!) and see when I can book it in!

It's great that things seem to be coming together with my Rib now, dad has agreed to do all the wiring for me (he runs his own electronic engineering company, and did our yacht when we had one) which is cool, then when I've got the tubes repaired, will service the engine myself. Also need to repair the console, and have a list of things to buy.

Lots to do, but at least I've worked out what I'm doing!

Has the engine been used recently and was it part of the boat? Without, putting a negative light on thing, it may be worth having the engine checked over before you spend lots of money on it i.e compression test etc. I am sure between everyone on here somebody must have a compression tester that they will let Jimbob borrow.....

Hi all

The last person who asked to borrow a compression tester in the pompey area was offered several, including my own. I think we, the Solent 'Lot', are starting to get quite self sufficient.
