A cheap one - TCW3 is the spec to look for.

As Mr Prawn says make sure its TCW3, I have used the standard quicksilver and quicksilver premium in the past, which is quite expensive. I have found Shell Nauiclus (however you spell it) to be a good budget 2 stroke and have also used fuchs in the past, with no difference to the quicksilver in all honesty, except on your wallet. As long as it TCW3 you should be fine, just DON'T use motorbike 2 stroke oil.

I have no intention of trying it (I am using the Nautilus at the moment) but out of interest, what is the difference in outboards that means you can't use a 2 stroke bike oil? After all most 2 stroke bikes are pretty highly strung things so must need a good oil?

Mainly it is down to operating temperature and environmental considerations.

To be honest a lot depends on the mix you are using. To get past the latest laws new 2 strokes are often running at 100 or even 150:1 - you NEED bloody good oil for that. If you run at 50:1 or even 25:1 I suppose any old oil will do.

Remember one of the finest 2 stroke oils ever and still used in racing is good old castor!!!

Yer, right. Try it Codders and then come back and tell us the results.

Husquvarna specifically mention not to use marine 2 stroke oil in their chainsaws. It's not up to it, apparently. I suppose 12,000rpm and air cooled gets a bit warm.
