Is my 55 Yam actually cooling?

I have just built up a 55 from Yamaha and Mariner bits but my question is: Is there meant to be water coming out of the exaust when its cooling correctly?

I seem to remember this being the case with my old 50 Suzuki but I'm sure the exaust passage just went straight down the leg when put the Yam together.

I don't really want to cook it considering the amount of time I have spent on it!

Water does come out the pee hole when it running.

the water will exit through the prop with the exhaust gases,
when it gets warm enough to open the thermostat it will also come out of the exhaust ports at the top of the leg!
this is a good tell to see if it's running without a stat in it!
if you are running it on flush muffs it may take a bit longer for the stat to open because of the constant supply of cold water.

^^ What Andy said, though I doubt the old 55 Yam lump had a thermostat.

Cheers lads!
I think the point I was trying to make is if he's just running the engine up after a rebuild he'll either have the engine on muffs or in a butt,
And at tick over on muffs it can take quite a long time for the motor to warm up.
Jon I know when you’re in the 16° salty stuff you’re not at tick over!
And jizm it’s the same water you use
Right im off to count my six toes.
