Is it worth it? your opinions please

I've been offered a 3year old immaculate mariner 3.3hp outboard as a straight swap for my mid eighties mercury blue band 7.5 long shaft (with a few small problems but a good runner) - as its too heavy for my sib really and long shaft- is this a good deal? as i want the 2.7m sib to still plane

You'll be lucky if it still planes with a 3.3 but from what you've said about your 7.5 I'd do the swap anyway-you'd get enough for the 3.3 to buy a 7.5hp without problems.

Depends how heavy you are!

Should plane unless you are supersize

Olly well worth it. Ben at Hayling Island has for a Mercury (or marina) 5hp 4-stroke on ebay for £395 buy it now at the moment!

You could always try 'lifters' if your having difficulty planing. I fitted them to my tender, Lodestar NSA 290. I can plane at half throttel with my Yamaha Malta (I think its 3hp). They also give excellent performance with the 9.9hp!
