Identifying a mercury 6hp

Hi!
Can any member help me.
I just bought an auxiliary engine for my Northcraft Rib, here in Belgium.
It's a Mercury 6HP two-stroke long shaft from 2001 but now I'm not sure...
Seems to be a F6ML model

Unfortunately the sticker on the bracket is no more readable, on the upper cylinder water-jacket I see a welsh plug with something like "0P031039"

Can someone tell me the exact year of the engine?
Is it possible to buy a new sticker for it?

I'm also planning an upgrade to a 8hp by removing the plate between carb and exhaust. Is it the good choice?

Thanks a lot for your help!
I couldn't find anything on Internet even on available listings (http://www.maxrules.com/Merc_model_files/2p2-6.html or http://www.marineparts.com/partspage...elp/tech14.htm )
Jeremy

Try here;

It's in Swedish, but the numbers are the same! I reckon yours is 1999.

As for the upgrade, maybe. There is likely going to be some spark advance / retard change. Have a look at the microfiches on here

http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Me...ury/parts.html

and make sure when you compare that the serial numbers are in the same range. You'll lneed to check:

Fuel system
Exhaust system (including the leg)
Throttle System (pay special attention to the cams & levers)
And as a sanity check, Electrics & Crank Just to make sure it doesn't have a different coil / trigger assy or crank.

I too would go with 1999, my "paper list" gives the No. run as the same in 9D280's link.

Well, if thats the right serial number it says its a 1999 Mercury 6ML.
On that model you will have to change the carb to increase the HP to 8hp, it lists a different carb for the 8hp.

What about 9.9 & 15hp versions? Any other differences?

You are right!!!!
It seems to be just an upgrade of the carb! Ok, now I'm looking for a 9.9 carb!
I finally understand why he is so heavy compared to 6hp 4-stroke!
Hope it will not be too much for the transom on my 6.3 northcraft!

Yes, it lists a different part number for the 9.9 and 15hp Powerheads.
