How much is a Johnson 15 hp late 90s ?

Hi all
Was looking for a 10 - 15 hp 2 stroke for my 3.6 mt sib
I have viewed a late 90s Johnson 15hp 2 stroke with tiller that has only done 3 hrs and is in as new condition.
Would this need to be serviced before being used and how much does a typical service cost
Seller is asking £1000 - is this a good buy?

No!

Johnson of late 90's would be worth around £700 tops. Private sale less again.

I recently bought a 15hp Johnson 1999. Paid probably to much at £800.

£95.00 + Vat, full service price list at Servicing | Glasgow and Clyde Outboard Services Outboard Engine Servicing including what is included.

Buying from a dealer: 3 month warranty minimum + it will have been serviced and guaranteed working but will cost a bit more.

Buying private, cheaper, would always service unless they have recent receipts, could be great or could be a bag of nails.

Oh and for 2k you can buy a new engine with 5 year warranty so I would suggest that 1K for one that is 13-15 years old is not great value.

Last but not least. How do you know its only done 3 hours? I am not saying it has done more but how do you actually know?

good luck

Dave

Thanks all
Guy didnt believe that his engine wasnt worth £1k, preferred to keep it ( for another 15 years? probably)
Will start my hunt for a 10-15 hp for my sib soon (but given how crap the weather has been this year is it really worth it, probably not!)
