Well...if you could get 12.5% off and VAT free then that sounds pretty good . If they won't let you have it VAT free then something's wrong as you don't have to pay VAT.

Isn't there a way of reclaiming VAT if bought in the UK for shipment abroad?

I thought you could make a declaration and not pay it in the 1st place if you showed your passport (or something like that)?

From distant memory I think Nos is correct. However, you need to have it sealed(bonded) to prove it has not been used in the UK

As long as I get a certificate of shipment out side the EU then we do not charge the Vat! But if I do not get this I have to pay the Vat even if I did not charge it!

Same here, I sold a boat into Guernsey a few years ago, and was instructed by the customs & excise to get the paperwork stamped by the ferry company in Portsmouth, as proof of it leaving the UK, so that I didn't have to charge the customer the vat.

Easily said this Vat thing. A very complicated subject as Roy at Osprey would no doubt confirm !

I'm buying the engine from a Channel Island dealer so no probs with Vat. If it were coming from the UK I'd be making sure it was an export order and either supplied/freighted direct to me with no Vat or I'd have to use a retail scheme and reclaim the Vat after export. Both methods require proof of overseas status and certificate of shipment.

So to cut to the chase.... 8,200 for a Suzzy 200 inc fitting to transom sounds good

That price sounds good to me also. Probably could not do better in the USA.
