how do i unrichen a engine

hi ive just bought a 3 cylinder yam about 1995 ? but its running far too rich,/way too much smoke and strugles to open up, is it turn clockwise to lean it out and anti to richen or is it the other way around, it is ideling ok its just the amount of smoke that gets me sometimes you cannot see the engine it gets that bad.

I forget, someone else might know, but screw all the way in counting the turns, then count back out to where you were. Try going in and out bit by bit, triual and error may be the best way. You can then screw all the way in and count out again if it decides not to work, and you should be back to where you started.

check the amount of oil premix or that the oil pump isnt playing silly buggers, sounds like its getting too much oil,
if it were mine and it had auto lube, i would bypass that and premix to 50-1 ration, leanish,

it has had the oil pump taken off so ive to pre mix it , im mixing it as instructed i/e 50/1 ive set the scews as in manual but still way too smokie ,can some one say if its clock wise to lean it out or anti clock wise to lean it out

I doubt the smoke is caused by wrong mixture if it's running ok. If it was really that rich it either wouldn't run or would be really lumpy. Have you tried fresh fuel mixed at 50:1, in case you've accidentally overdosed the fuel?

I might be stating the obvious..... but it is a 2-stroke is it?
