How do I get this out?

Following my other thread on the power tilt pump I need to remove it for repair. I can't get the top bar that holds the top end of it out though! Can anyone advise how this can be removed? I'm guessing it has to come out of the right hand side...I've tried tapping it with a hammer (as much as I can in the very confined space) but it won't budge.

Tim , remove circlip ,squirt with a little WD40 , and should drift out no prob.
You can see the various parts in the pic !

You might try to support the engine weight if you haven't already done this. This will remove any loading the pin has and will prevent any nasty accidents when it does come out.

OK, if you look in your circle at about 5 O'clock, you'l lsee the small head of a pin in a small square recess.

This is where the fun starts - you need to remove that pin, which engages in a groove in the big pin that the piston end rotates round. Once you have the small one out, take the pressure off & the big pin will fall out.

I used mole grips & a gallon of WD40 on mine. Granted I had the advantage of doing it on the workbench with the rest of the engine scattered around various boxes, but as Hightower says, worth propping the engine to prevent headaches.

(There's a similar pin at the other end)

Arh there's another pin! I've already got the engine resting on blocks, have removed the circlip and have applied lots of wd40 but it wouldn't budge. Hopefully armed with this new knowledge it'll come out nice and easily!

Well, I had a tinker with it last night and there doesn't appear to be another pin anywhere. I tried tapping the big pin again with a hammer and it moved a couple of mm but no more.

Whats the solution? It's in such an awkward position its very difficult to hit with a hammer

I removed my one of them last year! the bugger is mild steel and the corrosion will be holding it in. the good news is its possible to get a 4" disc cutter with a thin blade either side odf the ram eye in to slice the pin in 3 which allows easy removal, or the the other way is to heat it up until all the nylon bushes melt, then it comes out easy too.(its bushed in the ram as well as the clamp)
the pin is £40 although the bushes are cheap. i replaced my pin with a piece of stock stainless aand a split pin either end for about £5.
Having cut the pin up I could see cutting it was deffo the right way to get it out. beating it would not have done any good and just damaged the alloy.

Mine is a dead end hole. Can't tap/ walloped through, hence the mole grips comments.

AFAIK its called a tilt ram upper pivot pin???
looks exactly the same as mine. Yamaha 80AET.

Looks exactly the same as the F50 setup too-2 bushes that go in the inside, dowel/pin through the middle plus a circlip on the left as you stand behind the boat.
