Honda Problem

I've got a Honda BF90 4 Stroke which is about 5 years old. It used to start on the turn of the key and purrrr..

However since having it serviced last year it takes a while to start (10 seconds) and seems to be missing slightly on tickover. If I open it up it seems fine (but maybe I can't hear due to the increased engine noise ?)

The tell tale is much better however since servicing!

Always restarts no problem at all. It's just on tickover you can hear what seems like it not firing correctly.

It has never cut out on tick over and increasing ther throttle slightly (in case tick over had been reduced) doesn't really seem to fix it.

Any Ideas?

It could be the carb balancing, the set up on the carburettors is quite important to get smooth running out of the BF90. its about a 30 minute job with the right tools.

Would they have adjusted them (wrongly perhaps) during a service? Or do they just go out of synch?

I'm bringing my rib to you shortly for a valet, so perhaps you could look at it for me at the same time?

There was a recall on a lot of the BF series Engines last October the Programmed Fuel Injection starter main relay could crack under thermal shock.

I dont know if it covered your engine but it certainly covered all above
130 hp

Your fault is very similar to the symtoms we were warned about with the problems increasing until the engine will not start

I received a recall notice from Honda although the fault never manifested itself on our engine. Someone i know with the same engine had a fault very similar to yours but they did not know about the recall until i told them about it. The part was changed on their engine under warranty and it solved the problem

Contact honda to see if your engine was covered

Regards

Paul
