How much do you think I could get for my Honda 40hp outboard might consider a trade in. It is a 2001 model and is a good runner.

List price on the 2011 model is five and a half grand, not sure how much that helps though.

Should be worth up to 3k if it has been a very gentle ten years.

Joking aside, Keep an eye on Ebay etc & see what that kind of thing is going for. In a month or two is likely the best time to sell- people are wanting to get out & buy new (to them) kit.......

I think the one I bought in about 2000 ran $4500 US (no T/T, but electric start.) I'd assume it's about another grand now.

I'd guess you could get about $2000 to $2500 US if you're patient, and find a buyer who's a little antsy about buying.

Bill Higham (and he's not cheap) has a 2003 30hp Mariner 2-stroke short shaft, low hours with 6 months warranty for £2k. Bridger Marine are selling a new Honda 4-stroke with power-tilt and 6 year warranty for £4,300.

short shaft doesn't help at all I'm thinking
long shaft with ptt would do about 2 to 2.5k on ebay in May onwards based on my experience of selling a few outboards on there.
what will it actually fit with a short shaft??

FWIW, is the OP sure it's Short Shaft, i.e. 15" approx. as opposed to Standard/Long Shaft at 20"? I found a huge amount of confusion out there in the terminology when I was buying my outboard. Obviously I ended up completely perplexed at times

As pointed out, a 15" 40HP is a bit limited in application....?

Dell boy and Orkney Dories are longshaft

Gotchiboy's old Zodiac Pro was apparently built with a Std shaft (15") transom.

Not all of them.

The Dell 11' had a shortshaft cutout. Can't think why, 'coz it floods at the slightest provocation even when it has been filled in to take a long shaft.

And Chris, you might want to look at the "bits'n'pieces" section........
