Honda 225

Hi,
Just bought a new Osprey Viper with a used Honda 225. I'm told that the engine should only be 15 hrs old (or rather it was, I did 10 great hours last weekend). The hour said only 16 when I bought it and it's still under warranty from Cougar Marine for a year but the model sticker says 2001. If I 'd like to track the engine, is there a "black box" or an outlet to read data from it? The boat end engine works excellent and I'd like to service it to keep it that way. I collected the boat from England an took it to Sweden two weeks ago, now it's doing good work on our west coast. Grateful for all hints!

Congrat to your Osprey Mattias, the engine can be 2001 but been sold for first time in 2004 than the engines warranty starts.

Hmm, 5 year warranty, engine says 2001 and you get one years warranty having just bought it secondhand from the company that builds and maintains the 225hp race fleet,

Makes you wonder doesn't it?

As i say, if engine is an old model that didnt get sold during 2001 they often sell older models for a bargain, and if engine is sold for the first time in 2004 the warranty starts in the month you buy it during 2004.
I have today an engine from 2003 but bought it new from Yamaha in August this year, my 2 year warranty ends in august 2007 even if its a 2003.

Well the engine was taken out in July this year as i understand it so not so many i guess

Thankyou all, back to the original Q - can you, at the right mec, track the status of the engine - as I said, I don't by the background story to the full and really like to know.

They should be able to just connect and se exactly how the engine has been running.
They can se average revs every hour, indication of water in fuel, overheatings, over revs etc etc.
