Help with steering

Guys just got to my rib after a few months of it sitting around. I now have a problem with the steering. Its cable steering which seems to have become seized since its last use. Can anyone recomend a way of freeing it up? Have been quoted 1200 quid for hydraulic steering but budget at present doesnt allow for it!! Thanks peeps.

I whacked mine with a big mallet year before last, stripped it down and greased everything, following season seized again it didnt need such a whack this time, only about 1/2 a whack.

This year everytime I checked the RIB I turned the steering, and it anit seized, going to strip it down again and greased everything though.

rip out the cable rubbish and fit hydraulic, you can do it for a fraction of that price. i fitted a seastar system and got it for a bargain price as an exdisplay from hypromarine, give them a call and ask for steve to see what he can do. a kid could fit hydraulic steering it is that easy, and if you go to a boat shop that has the hydraulic bleed kit it is a p of p to bleed as all done automatically

hydraulic is the only way to go with that engine on the back

I have to agree with he of extended girth on this one. Seized or semi-seized steering is not only a pain, it's dangerous. It's gotton rusty in there and lubing will only improve it for a while. I'd get it replaced.

If you can't whack it with a hammer, remove the drag link (steering bar) and stick a long screw-driver in the hole at the end and then twist it. It should start to move....

Doing the works not a problem looks like a fairly easy fit and have the gear o blead it all. Where did you find that price? Other problem is with a 200 on the back its gonna need to be fairly sturdy!!!
